Treating Diastasis recti with Winback Tecartherapy

Diastasis recti is a condition which affects many women. It generally occurs during pregnancy or after delivery.

What is Diastasis recti?

The rectus abdominis muscle is a paired muscle located in front of the abdomen, between sternum and pubis. These two muscles are separated by a fibrous web named « linea alba ». They ensure the stabilization of the torso.

Diastasis recti is the pathological separation of the rectus abdominis muscle in two halves. This leads to a muscle distension and thus to a sagging belly.

What does it look like?

This condition gives the figure a fat and unattractive appearance. Intra-abdominal organs are pushed forward (even more when abdominal muscles loosen up), making the abdomen protuberant and flabby.

Yet these troubles are not merely aesthetic. Indeed, this muscle loosening can also result in pelvic and lumbar pain occurring at the slightest physical exertion, even during the most mundane everyday activities, back pain (lumbago, dorsalgia) and difficulties in keeping an upright posture, risks of becoming overweight, umbilical hernias, the enlargement of the linea alba during physical exertion or the emerging of abdominal apron.

On top of that, let’s not forget to mention urinary (incontinence) and/or gynecological (sagging of pelvic organs) troubles.

What causes diastasis recti?

Pregnancy strongly increases the risk of diastasis, since the uterus becomes growingly larger. The deformation of the belly occurs at the third trimester of pregnancy but generally disappears a few weeks after delivery for most women.

However, for more than a third of them, this deformation remains after delivery. Indeed, under the effect of relaxin, the hormone secreted to help the baby come through more easily during delivery, the linea alba can loosen up, bringing about diastasis recti.

Women who gave birth to more than two babies, to twins or to a baby that weighed more than 4 kg (9 lb), have a higher occurrence of suffering from this condition.

How to treat it with Winback TECAR therapy?

A surgical procedure is not always necessary: a tecartherapy treatment can be sufficient to correct or reduce diastasis recti. To this end, follow the following Winback protocol:
