Fibromyalgia Treatment with WINBACK

Definition of the pathology

Fibromyalgia or Diffuse Idiopathic Pain (DIP) syndrome is a disease characterized by a chronic painful muscle condition (diffuse myalgia) that is widespread or localized in various areas of the body, manifesting itself through tactile allodynia and persistent, potentially debilitating asthenia (fatigue). Long regarded as a syndrome, fibromyalgia is now considered a disease.

The main symptoms of fibromyalgia are pain, and tenderness and stiffness of muscles, tendons, and ligaments. Fibromyalgia most often affects the neck, shoulders, abdomen, lower back, and thighs. The pain can be felt evenly over a large area, but there are also sensitive places where it is more intense. Fibromyalgia also includes other symptoms such as fatigue, sleep disorders or non-restorative sleep, difficulty sleeping, lack of energy, and poor memory. People with fibromyalgia may suffer from mood swings, anxiety, migraines, headaches, very painful menstrual cramps, and irritable bowel syndrome. Fibromyalgia symptoms intensify and then lessen over time, but complete disappearance of symptoms is rare. The location and intensity of pain may vary from one day to the next, and external factors such as stress or the weather can aggravate the situation. Fibromyalgia can be treated to reduce pain.

Winback’s interest in the treatment of this pathology.

The use of Winback technology is very interesting in the treatment of fibromyalgia, because it allows access to areas that are hard to reach and intensifies the therapist’s actions. In fact, the therapist can focus on targeted areas to relieve the patient of pain. Winback therapy gets rid of pain by performing long segments between active and passive electrode applications. In this way, the patient being treated for fibromyalgia can feel the benefit of the treatment beginning with the first few sessions.

A program of 3 to 5 sessions in a month is necessary to regain the full range of movement and to relieve pain. Then, in order to prevent any relapse, we recommend one session every 6 weeks. Talk with your therapist to come up with the best treatment based on your needs.

A meeting with your physiotherapist or osteopath equipped with Winback therapy takes 20 minutes. This meeting usually starts with a massage in combination with Winback equipment to release the patient’s tension (pain or extreme stiffness). The therapist concentrates the Winback energy to enhance the patient’s movements and to prevent any possible relapse. Results can be seen beginning with the first session !

Therapist’s perspective : Protocols Used

«For 5 months, I treated a group of 10 patients with fibromyalgia using Winback therapy. My sessions last 25 minutes, beginning with a massage in this dynamic with an average therm of 30 / 40%.

Manual massage, stretching, transversal rubbing, mobilization, and faciatherapy, is done using the RET FixPads positioned in myBack always in the average therm felt by the patient. We have the freedom to work with both hands using a palpatory method to adapt to the patient’s pains. I insist on constant discussion with my patient during the session. I don’t hesitate to decrease the diathermy in the first two sessions. If there are digestive issues, I adapt using a Lowpulse therm period in Deep CET. All sessions end by returning to the effective calmness in CET 10% Lowpulse. Thanks to the complete pain relief and tissue mobility, I can attest to the effectiveness of Winback Therapy by the increased time between two sessions. Today: I see 4 out of 10 patients only once every 6 weeks, 4 patients each month, and 2 patients every 2 weeks. My patients generally feel stronger mentally and less fatigued. Signs of depression decreased, and the main reason is a positive experience with Winback therapy. The therapist’s commitment is crucial for this pathology and Winback responds to this type of care.

Dear colleagues, I can hardly believe it, but I can honestly say this having 10 motivated fibromyalgia patients! Because patient cooperation is essential!»

Patient’s perspective

„Recently my physiotherapist obtained a new device, the WINBACK tecar therapy. We tried it first on the cervical spine. After the first meeting, I immediately felt relief and a sense of agility. I realized it right away when I went to put on my jacket as usual, and I couldn’t even stand having it on my shoulders. A few hours later, relief settled more and more and I realized that I could breathe easier. After 3 sessions, I no longer had any pain in the trapezius to the head and neck, and no more inflammation. I had found flexibility that I had forgotten about.”
